Welcome to the Alchemy of Ascension Podcast. I'm your host, Wahshala Sananda, and I'm so excited for another season, a brand new season of the Alchemy of Ascension.
0:56
And this one is gonna be a little different than we've ever done before. We are recording inside Spiritual Prosperity Circle membership.
1:06
We have members who are joining us, and then at the end we're gonna have an after hours and ask questions, and it'll be so much fun.
1:14
And there is nobody better in the world that I can think of that could help us kick off this brand new season than Lisa Peterson. Lisa, welcome. Thank you so much. I'm so happy to be here.
1:31
I am so happy to have you. And you know, when I started Spiritual Prosperity Circle, which is only not very long ago, just like a month and a half ago now,
1:41
I thought, "Oh, wouldn't it be fun to do the podcast with the members? Who should I reach out to?"
1:47
And you were literally the first person that came to mind because what you do is exactly the foundation of what Spiritual Prosperity Circle is all about.
2:00
I'm just gonna read a little bit, some of the highlights from your bio so anybody who's not familiar with you can kinda know a little bit about what you've been up to, and then we're gonna jump in.
2:09
So Lisa Peterson is a transformational coach, author, and retreat leader. She has 30 years of experience in the financial industry as an advisor, and she's a meditator since 1999. We love that.
2:26
So today she helps spiritually minded entrepreneurs and purpose driven people experience prosperity, peace, and joy. Lisa's work draws on consciousness frameworks, somatic awareness, and non-dual teachings.
2:43
She is the author of The Mindful Millionaire and The Money Catalyst, host of The Mindful Millionaire podcast, and founder of wealthclinic.com. Lisa lives and leads retreats in Sedona, Arizona.
2:59
So I'm just excited to jump into this conversation with you today because it's so relevant.
3:07
And I'll tell you the main, like the foundational idea that, um, sp- pr- Spiritual Prosperity Circle came about from is that so many spiritual people seem to struggle financially. You're...
3:22
You know, I think you're the per- perfect person to ask. Um, number one, I'm not gonna try and give you too many questions at once.
3:29
Uh, I'd love to hear a little bit about your spiritual journey inside your financial journey, you know, 'cause they've been hand in hand.
3:37
And then after that maybe we can dig into why is it that spiritual people seem to struggle with money? Or many of them. Of course, not all of them. [laughs] So it's such a great question. And I will say this, that
3:52
like many of you, I have always had a leaning to spiritual consciousness. Those conversations were inside of my head, but I never found growing up the place where those could be. And so
4:08
along the bumps of life that we all experience, I reached a point in time where I was like, if the world could suck this bad, I don't believe in God.
4:19
And that would send me into all in into the material world where I got an MBA, I worked in banking and finance. I doubled down with all my attention to, how can I make more money?
4:36
How can I be more secure? Because I had come from a home that was the opposite of security. It was very filled with scarcity and fear, and I was always on alert. And so I wanted to overcome that.
4:49
I was like, okay, spirituality isn't working. I'm gonna go find the money. And that was really my life until I was about 30 years old.
4:59
And when I was 30, unfortunately a horrifying tragedy, my father was murdered by his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend. And in the course of the collapse that could happen, he was also estranged.
5:13
Like, my father had a lot of dark, deep, um, demons inside, and we were not in contact when this happened. But what ended up happening for me is that dark night of the soul, you know, very quickly.
5:27
And I realized that I had put all my eggs in the money basket, and that there was this part of me that I didn't even know existed anymore. I was so consumed by the money.
5:38
So, you know, fast-forward, like as I started to go, and this was in 1999, that's when the me- meditation happened that began this journey that continues to this day.
5:50
But along the way, at first I just kept money separate. Like, I was like, here's my spiritual world and here's my, like-... money world. [laughs] I thought, "Well, this works pretty good."
6:01
And as you can imagine, at some point we have this, these periods of integration where we're like, "Uh, these aren't really jiving. I'm kind of living two different lives."
6:12
And so when they started to come together was when everything started to change, and I started to have these realizations and really tune into my intuition and open up these psychic gifts that I didn't even know I had that would ultimately shift me in the direction that I, I've been headed ever since.
6:31
But it was, it was like a good 10 years, from '99 to 2010, where I just lived, lived two separate lives.
6:40
I tried to keep them both completely, you know, a really big wall between the two, and it worked, and then it didn't. Wow. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your father.
6:52
Uh, that must have been so difficult to deal with.
6:56
Um, but it also led you down a new path and, you know, I, I know bad things happen sometimes for good reason, or not that that was a good reason, but like led you in a new direction, which
7:10
s- was powerful and is powerful, and has resulted in you helping so many people, um, spiritually and financially. So I would love to hear your thoughts on, um...
7:27
First of all, have you noticed, uh, spiritual people having a difficult time with finances, um, particularly that category of people, and what's your experience of that and how, how have you worked with that? Yeah.
7:43
It's very, very common.
7:45
In fact, I didn't know until I started this wealth clinic like 12 years ago just how common it was, but w- immediately people started showing up who were deeply spiritual who were really struggling with money.
8:00
And so I do feel like I've explored this a lot, and I'll just share a few reflections of what's come up, and that is
8:09
many times, unlike me, where I sort of went in that direction of money, people who are born in, in this life deeply empathetic, deeply tuned to their intuition, to their heart,
8:23
they don't always get the guidance and the wisdom, and maybe they're not even open to it because it seems so different than the heart. Like money in the society that we live in is not closely aligned to the heart.
8:37
It can be, but it, it is not automatic.
8:40
And so I feel like there's a resistance that occurs that keeps people from diving into understanding money and how it is that we could accumulate it if we want or how it is that we can accumulate to give away.
8:58
Like, we just don't end up spending enough time thinking about it, procuring it, understanding it. And, and here's the cool thing I do want to say.
9:11
Over and over and over again people have come to me who haven't understood it and haven't taken enough time with it, and within a short period of time with the right guidance and the right hand-holding,
9:23
they are totally able to do everything that they want with money. It was just not having the exposure to it, the assistance, the support, the information.
9:36
But once it comes together, like everyone can do it, it's just a matter of it's gonna take some time. It's gonna take some education.
9:44
It's also gonna take what I feel like I'm inside of, and maybe we'll talk about, is just this like how do I connect money to my heart and, and what does that mean. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. And
9:58
I love that you said it's there for everybody, that it's possible for everybody, because
10:04
I know there are a lot of people that just feel like, "Oh, you know, other people seem to be able to get money or seem to just have this ability to understand it, to do it, but not me."
10:15
And, you know, it seems like there's something, I guess if you want to call it a block or something that a lot of people come in when they are sensitive, when they do feel the world, you know, empathic people. And
10:31
I don't know if it's because they see the bad things that have been done by the people in power, who tend to be the people with the most money, or if it's a block brought in from past lives, past experiences, or if there's something else going on there.
10:52
But, um, yeah, I would love to just kind of dig in a little bit more and, and, and I also want to talk about the heart for sure because being heart-led is su- such an important part of spirituality.
11:05
But how do you advise people who are experiencing, um, like we'll say some, some of these blocks?
11:13
Like, what can we do to overcome them and, you know, identify as a deeply spiritual person and simultaneously, um, allow ourselves to be prosperous financially? Yeah.
11:30
Tying back to what you were just saying in reflection to my comments, I want to say that there is a lot of bypassing that happens and things like, um...
11:43
And I know it helped a lot of people, so this isn't meant to be like completely negative.
11:47
[laughs] But I will say things like the secret and a lot of teachings out there that pretty much were like, "Okay, if you sit on that cushion and you get really clear and you have great intention, these things are going to come to you just through the power of your mind."
12:04
And because pe- I have never met a multimillionaire who has sat on their cushion and, like, intended to have that happen. Like, there is effort involved.
12:16
There is, there are things that we have to do for the money to come to us. It doesn't just fall from the sky. And so maybe that happens. Of course, people win lotteries.
12:28
Things happen spontaneously, but, like, that's not how you're gonna build, for most people, a wealthy life.
12:34
And even when people do win it or it comes in a sudden windfall, if they have not been trained of how to manage that money properly, they're...
12:42
The statistics say that it's gone within two to three years, no matter how much money they have. Like, it's mind-blowing. So I just wanna say first and foremost, when we're very spiritual,
12:56
there are so many beautiful feelings that we get by being in that mindset,
13:02
and when we come into, like, learning about money, especially at first, I don't think you're gonna have those warm fuzzies that we really enjoy in the spiritual world. Like, it's gonna take some grunt work.
13:14
It's gonna take some studying. It's gonna take some brain power to understand the mechanics of it, of what works and what doesn't. And for...
13:23
And, and what I will also say is many times spiritual people have come through the years, and the first thing they're saying to me is, "This is how much money I want." And I'm like, "Well, that's fine. Like, no judgment.
13:38
Great. You want $10 million." You know, and they have $10 in their bank account. I am not exaggerating, $10, but they want 10 million. And I'm like, "Okay. Like, do you have a plan for getting that $10 million?"
13:53
And they're like, silence. [laughs] Like, nothing comes. And so
14:01
we need to have a plan, and many times that is going to take resourcefulness, resources, learning, and the intention is gonna carry you along the way, right? 'Cause the other part of it is getting out of inertia.
14:18
You know, if you know the, the science of, like, the quantum physics, like, it's difficult when we haven't done something before to go out and do it.
14:27
And so at that first period of time when we're pointed in the direction of, "Okay, I'm ready to build prosperity," like, it's gonna be like glue, you know, where your feet are coming out of that glue and it's really hard and it's difficult.
14:40
And many spiritual people will be like, "This doesn't feel good, so therefore it isn't good." Mm. Yeah. Yeah. That's definitely... It...
14:51
We have to be okay with being uncomfortable to effect a change, and that's true pretty much across the board for anything we wanna do or change, and I think especially so for finances.
15:07
Um, but what do you say to somebody who is, you know, deeply spiritual and has been doing all of the things?
15:17
You know, yes, the meditations and the visualizations and the feelings and all that, but also taking the steps and doing whatever they can to open the pathways and still are experiencing some blockages. Yeah. Uh,
15:36
there's lots of different things, so I'm just kind of tuning into what's coming in intuitively.
15:41
A few tools that I really love are human design and gene keys, because I feel like people need to make sure that they are not operating as if they were a manifestor when they're a generator like myself.
15:55
Like, there are some tools that are very important because... And I, I... They changed my life, but learning about your profile type, your, um, you know, your genius profile in gene keys.
16:09
There are so many clues about making sure that you know yourself well enough, that you are not trying to per- perform in the world as if you were someone else.
16:21
So I'm gonna pause there, because this might be one of the most important things that I do for folks is let's make sure you are creating according to who you really, really are. Yeah. That is powerful.
16:37
I think you're touching into something that... And it really, it lands for me because I know when I'm doing something that doesn't feel aligned
16:51
in order to make money or, you know, when I have done that in the past, I just, I just don't... I just drop it. Like, I, I can't follow through. Um, it's gotta be soul-aligned. It's gotta be...
17:06
I mean, I would rather do something for free than get paid well for something that is out of integrity or out of alignment, and I think most spiritual people probably feel that way.
17:17
And I know that was also part of your path when at some point you confronted, um, I've, I've heard your story. You know? Uh, you confronted, um, "Hey, I'm...
17:29
This is all about sales, not about helping people anymore," and you made a pivot at that point to, to leave, I think, a probably a lucrative job. Um, so yeah. How do, how do we...
17:43
How do you advise people to follow that, that part, you know, our hearts that when it's saying, "Okay, I need to survive. I need to get my bills paid.
17:51
I need to get my, my life paid for, and so therefore I have to work, but what I'm doing isn't my highest calling and my highest service," what do, what do you do in that situation? Yeah.
18:06
So another tool, and this is what the whole The Mindful Millionaire book, um, is all about, is that- I wanted to show people that, a- again, it, it's not an overnight fix, but that you can change things.
18:22
And one of the greatest tools I have discovered in this transformation that we're wanting to do from some form of scarcity to abundance is using the chakras.
18:35
And it's funny because people are like, "Wait, a finance person talking about chakras? Like, that doesn't really go together." And I get it. And
18:45
what ends up happening is that in s- the chakras are very helpful for us to understand where scarcity patterns have taken root and are, like, defining our decisions, and our, not even our decisions, like, our whole entire belief system around something like receiving.
19:06
Because people may have a really big intention of like, "I wanna have prosperity." And yet the minute you focus on something like receiving, like, let's, let's have a conversation, you and I, about receiving.
19:21
What does it feel like when somebody gives you a compliment? Some people are good with that. Some people are like, "Yeah, I'm, like, uncomfortable."
19:28
What does it feel like when someone wants to write you a check, you know, just out of the, you know, kindness of their heart? Y- you start to, "Well, you know, it makes me really uncomfortable."
19:38
You know, like, you're looking for the signs of what happens. What happens if you're, like, up for a, a, you, you have a, the perfect client appears. You're self-employed.
19:48
The perfect client appears, and you find yourself self-sabotaging when they're trying to work with you, right? Like, you don't res- respond quickly to their emails.
20:01
You don't tell them how important they are to your business. You don't really tune in to the making sure your proposal is spot on to the things that they're coming to you for.
20:10
Like, you're doing all these things that aren't helping you secure that client.
20:15
All of that, I have found, resides in the chakras, and by better understanding how the chakras are operating in your psyche through meditation, you start to unlock these patterns around receiving or giving or worthiness, right?
20:35
That's a huge one. Am I worthy to receive this money? And, and I wanna say this, like, everyone's on that journey.
20:44
Like, every time you, you get a windfall or something good happens, you're reaching sort of a new ceiling that you're gonna have to move past, and it's amazing how it works.
20:55
So, like, when you wanna build prosperity, you're gonna keep going up these rungs. And so the chakras are, are there to help inform you of like, oh, y- you just hit a wall here, my friend.
21:07
Like, you were good at receiving checks for $1,000, but now that somebody's saying $100,000, all of a sudden you're like, "I don't know. I'm shutting down. Technical malfunction."
21:19
Like, [laughs] like, those are the things that we can, like, tune, tune inward and, and as we understand how each of the chakras, again, that's in The Mindful Millionaire book, how they are interplaying with abundance and scarcity, we can s- pause when these things happen and say, "Okay, this isn't true.
21:37
I have a belief system I'm falling back to. How can I get help? How can I get resources? Who do I need to talk to? What do I need to learn?"
21:46
So that this belief system does not sabotage this per- current thing that I'm experiencing with money. Mm. Yeah. Yeah, and so important.
21:57
The things that you hit on that really, you know, I, I really feel like the, the basic safety and security obviously is tied to our, our ability to have and hold money, abundance, prosperity.
22:13
And then, um, what's the other thing? I think... Oh, receiving, yeah. Just the, we, we're so comfortable giving, right?
22:20
Like, oh, yeah, we'll give all day long, but then, you know, when it comes to people pouring into us, how good are we at that? And a lot of us aren't very good at it. We're better at giving than receiving.
22:32
And, um, so is there, like, a meditation or what do you, what do people do to clear that and, and be a, you know, feel secure, number one, and, and be a good receiver? Yeah.
22:45
Well, we'll make sure that everybody gets access to it for free to a meditation that I designed, like, 10 years ago that still people, I'll see them and they'll say, "I still do it every day."
22:56
I'm like, "Wow, that's amazing." But they have just noticed so much improvement. Uh, so the meditation is really good.
23:04
The other thing that I feel like we can give everyone in this moment is, uh, even with receiving, I would invite everyone to think about, like, it, it can be a very somatic experience to play with the experience of, like, stretching out your arms and, like, really opening the chest up.
23:25
Like, receiving often, uh, according to Cynthia Dale, she writes a lot about chakras, the receiving, the most powerful receiving is coming from the backside and versus the front side, even though I always point to my front.
23:38
But it's, like, just opening the body and, like, moving it around and feeling this opening of, like, how open am I to receiving? Like, what, what could I do with my body to orient to receiving?
23:51
And when somebody's wanting to give me something and I'm struggling, like, are there breathing techniques that I can do? Is there opening of the back or the chest?
24:00
Like, what w- can I visualize myself being more and more open? You could even use a scale of, like, one to 100. Ask yourself in this moment, how open are you to receiving? And see what number comes.
24:16
If it's 50 or greater, you know, or 50 or below, that gives you a sense of where you're at. It gives you some opportunity. You're like, "Okay."
24:25
And you can intuitively even ask, like, "What, what could I do for myself to be more open to receiving?" Plant that really strong intention, go to sleep, invite your dreams to take you there.
24:38
Like, so many magical opportunities around us to show us. And what's also fun too is you may notice all of a sudden somebody tries to give you something, so it's like, "Ooh, I'm already being tested."
24:49
Like, "Oh, thank you," you know? But it's the intention first that I always wanna focus on, right? It's so powerful. And then, and then returning to it again and again, making it a practice.
25:03
I want to be a better receiver. Show me the way. Mm. Yeah. Yeah. And, you know, as you're doing those, that gesture, those motions, it really makes me think about how when we're working...
25:17
Like f- I work online a lot, right? I'm typing, I'm creating content, I'm, I'm... I've alwa- I'm like here, you know?
25:24
I have my, my f- f- like hands in front of me and my head down a lot of the time, like looking at the screen or whatever, and it's this contraction, right? It's a contraction energy.
25:36
But I do go out every morning in the, when the sun rises, and I do this expansion to the sun, and I, I just really let it fill me.
25:45
And so like, it, I'm like, "Oh, yeah, I can feel, you know, the difference," like the correction. The correction of if you're too much like this, you've gotta correct it by opening up like this.
25:58
And, um, I, I can feel the difference in that. And so that really lands for me as well, the just move the body more, right? [laughs] And, um, I also love... I'm, I'm in Florida, so I get to go out s- and swim a lot.
26:13
I love to swim and float and be out in the sun, and just receive that way. Get in nature. I mean, nature's so abundant, right? It's always gonna give us more abundance and more, uh, alignment, I feel. Um, yeah.
26:30
So thank you for that. And, and thank you for the meditation. I know that'll, that'll be, um, handy for everybody to tune in and listen and clear. And, um, so now I'd kind of...
26:41
I have, um, some members that weren't able to come today who sent in some really good questions for you.
26:48
So I'd like to shift gears and ask you some of their questions, and, um, and just work 'em in here, because I think they're so relevant.
26:57
So the first question is, "I can make money fairly easily, but I struggle to keep it. There's an urge to get rid of it, almost like it's uncomfortable to keep.
27:08
When it comes in, I wanna spend it right away, and I'm curious what you think might be underneath that pattern."
27:17
The first thing coming through is that it's beautiful for you to have this awareness, because without the awareness you won't be able to make any changes in what's happening. So being able to pause when money comes in
27:34
and take ownership of it is what's coming through. Like, this is just very channeled for this person, but I'm sure lots of others. Like, you're not owning the money. And let's see. What does that mean? It means
27:50
owning is like stewardship. It doesn't mean it's gonna be with you forever, but there's a level of responsibility and stewardship that's being missed here. Like, oh, wow, this money's come in.
28:05
There's so many beautiful things it can do, and if I'm too quick to spend the money, it is an indication that I don't feel comfortable in the stewardship role of just simply taking care of it.
28:19
It could be more emphasis towards the concept of saving. I love the idea of setting up special accounts.
28:27
You could call it mag- magic pixie dust account, where you move the money into that account and you're like, "That's my stewardship account.
28:36
That's where I prove to myself that I am a saver, and that I'm comfortable keeping it there in my presence without w- wanting even to do anything with it."
28:48
Like, it's proving that there's a part of me that's ready to steward money, to learn about saving, to learn about investing. My guess is, is those aspects have been, um, avoided so far.
29:02
And so just first focus on the intention. This is really powerful. Maybe look up the word steward. What does it mean to be a good steward of something?
29:13
And then begin a new practice where the money goes, and it sits, and it's okay to not spend it. And then when the temptation comes in to buy things, have a conversation with yourself. What is this about?
29:27
Why am I so eager to spend this money? Of course, if it's food and shelter and very important items, I think we're talking about something different here, and that's what's coming through.
29:39
But, like, it's the other stuff. It's the extras. Are those extras going to make your life substantially better?
29:49
I have a friend who always took a 72-hour rule, that every time something was like, "I wanna buy this," the, the, the commitment to himself was, "I'm gonna wait 72 hours, and then if I'm still thinking about that thing, then it's probably more important than, than others, and maybe I'll make the move and I'll decide to get it."
30:11
Pause is, is really what he's encouraging, and I think that could really help this person. Mm. Yeah. That was great. As you were speaking, I was seeing, uh, the vision of parenting.
30:25
Um, like- We, we steward our children in a sense, and we grow them, right? We, we provide a safe space and the right nutrition and the things that they need to go from very small to grown up.
30:41
And, um, that was the vision I was getting. It's like, oh, it's like you could have your, your grow- child growing account, your parent account [laughs] or whatever you want to call it.
30:51
[laughs] And you put that money there and just let it grow a little at a time and, and, um, and then maybe you do something fun, you know, with your family with that or something at some point. I don't know.
31:02
But that's a different perspective than I've ever thought about with, um, with growing money, so that's, that's beautiful.
31:09
Or even just holding it and nurturing it, taking care of it rather than, um, just letting it go immediately. Wonderful. Thank you. Okay, next question. It never feels like I have enough money.
31:25
What do you say to someone who's always needing more no matter how much they earn? I think in this case it's very important to understand where that's coming from because
31:41
it's can be true that life is very expensive and it doesn't feel like no matter how much you make right now, it's enough to pay the bills that you have.
31:51
So I'm gonna not focus on that part of it, even though it's a valid part. Uh, more of this just feeling of never enough, never enough. This is, um, very much t- tied into the chakras.
32:06
And in this case, interesting enough, what's coming through is, like, the throat chakra. The throat chakra is about communication, and communication as it pertains to money.
32:17
And so my invitation to this person is to ask yourself, maybe go through this process of inquiry where you're asking yourself, where are these thoughts of not enough coming from?
32:31
What are the stories underneath this experience? Are they coming from early childhood? Are they coming from other phases in your life? Like, dive into those.
32:44
Focus on healing those parts of you, and you may notice a shift in the conversation of not enough becomes, uh, "I have enough for the things that are important to me. It always appears, right? When I need it."
33:02
That's what you're wanting to notice more of. So go back, look at the stories, unpack them. Write some love letters to yourself. That's also, uh, very helpful.
33:15
Like, "Although I never feel like it's enough, I love myself so deeply.
33:22
I appreciate how far I've come in this life, and I'm, I'm looking forward to the future where this idea of not having enough never, ever, ever affects me." Mm. Yeah.
33:38
Yeah, it feels like just the words not enough could, could be more than just money, right? It could be how you feel f- about yourself.
33:49
Um, you know, and I don't know if that's the case, you know, with this, this particular one who wrote the question. But it feels like it's an energetic presence, right?
33:59
Or an energetic expression that's like, oh yeah, well, if I feel that way about money, what else in my life am I feeling that way about? Um, and that reveals the layers. So yeah, there's some good work to do there.
34:12
Can I add one thing to this? Yeah. I want this, everyone to remember that, like,
34:20
having this thought not enough is universal for, like, the majority of the population, which is kind of why we've gotten in the mess that we have on the planet and stewarding the planet. That
34:36
seed is what causes people to amass billions of dollars that they could never spend in their lifetime at the expense of others who have so little. Like, no matter...
34:49
My point is, no matter how much money you have, if you don't deal with this, you will still have...
34:56
If you don't deal with the root problems underneath it, you will still have it for the rest of your life regardless of how much money you have. Mm-hmm.
35:04
'Cause they're not con- They're absolutely not aligned with each other. So billionaires keep wanting more and more and more.
35:12
They have it just as much as the person asking this question, and they haven't gotten control of it. Yeah. You can't take this money with you when you die.
35:24
You could make a beautiful difference in the world while you're alive, and some billionaires do that, but very few do, shockingly enough- Yeah... because of this seed that we're talking about here.
35:38
Yeah, I heard a, a billionaire interviewed one time, um, and someone asked him similar question about how much is enough, you know, when it comes to money. He said, "Oh my gosh."
35:49
He's like, "There are so many billionaires that have so many more billions than I do. I feel like I'm just, you know, I'm just at the bottom. Like, I'm just getting started."
35:57
And that was his perception of himself, and I'm like, what? You know, like, he has more than 99.9% of people but [laughs] Yeah... still feels like he's not enough, you know, doesn't have enough compared to- Yeah...
36:10
who you're comparing yourself to, right? We compare ourselves to someone in, you know, a country where they really don't have anything and they're living on dirt floors and 70 people in, you know, two rooms.
36:23
[laughs] It might be an exaggeration, but you know, you, you see stories like that a- and they're happy and they're, they're doing okay. They're, they have food, they have water, so that's enough. Mm-hmm.
36:32
But they aren't comparing themselves to the billionaires. [laughs] Yeah. It's amazing. My daughter went to-...
36:39
work in orphanages in Ghana when she was in high school, and she came back and she gave me this very, like, heartfelt, um, kind of confession of what she had experienced there. And she said, "Mom,
36:53
these folks have like, they're living on less than $5 a day." And she said, "They, all of them, are the happiest people I have ever met in my whole entire life." I'm like, whoa.
37:06
She, you know, she, she's just, she's just like, how is that possible, you know? And, and finally she just said, "Oh, because it must not have anything to do with the money. The happiness is completely separate."
37:18
In the West, we have connected the two tightly to say, and we have all these s- studies, but [laughs] and it's so funny 'cause the studies are just measuring people in the society that we live in that say that, "Oh, if you have some more money, you know, up to a certain point you're gonna be happier."
37:34
So it's... We just have to question these assumptions. Yeah. We know it's not true, otherwise everyone that had money would be happy. [laughs] Yeah. That's right. Right? And that is not the case. [laughs] All right.
37:48
I have another question here from a member. Was there ever a time when you discovered limiting beliefs about having both spiritual ful- fulfillment and financial prosperity? And if so, how did you work through that?
38:03
That goes a lot, that's a lot of what we were talking about in the beginning. Yeah. Yes. Oh, yes, 100%. I... There's been so many situations, and
38:16
I still probably struggle with this today because I have so much. [laughs] There's a tendency to just wanna give away, like, everything, and my family's like, "Whoa. Hold up there," you know?
38:30
Like, [laughs] like, it doesn't work that way. So I get it. How do I help myself?
38:36
I help myself by being incredibly compassionate and kind to the parts of me that are oriented to making money without judgment, without like, "Oh, you're so greedy. You're so selfish.
38:54
You're thinking only about your s- you know, self and nobody else." Like, I have to work on those voices sometimes.
39:02
Um, probably more in the past, but what, what you'll notice is that all of this is the mind, the mind's activities.
39:11
And so meditating, being aware of your thoughts, of the positive thoughts that help you and the thoughts that consume you and are negative and are limiting, and I feel like that's the work that I have to do when I confront exactly what she's asking.
39:29
Like, I just have to get really clear. What are the voices in my head? What... How can I talk to the negative ones in a very kind and compassionate way?
39:40
'Cause as we know, if we hate them and we push them away, they just get stronger. But I'm like, "Okay, there's place for you here, but I'm... I also don't want you running the show anymore." Yeah.
39:52
That saying, what we resist persists, right? Yeah. It comes back. [laughs] Um, yeah. And I think also just to add something to that, for me, I, I like to be generous. Uh, generosity is one of my core values, and
40:10
I can't be generous if I am not taken care of, right? Like, the more we allow ourselves to receive and be taken care of, the more generous we can be, right?
40:22
And that's, um, like, that's foundational, I think, for, for me. I think maybe for a lot of people that want to give. Like, you can't give anything away if you don't have anything.
40:34
You can't take care of others or support causes and things if you have nothing to give. So there is beauty in being able to receive and hold and know that this is not just selfish, and it's not just for me.
40:49
It's for more than me. It's for a vision or a purpose that's beyond me. [laughs] So good. Yeah, the purpose. Like, aligning so deeply with, like, okay, where do I wanna go with this? How do I wanna shape my life?
41:06
Who do I wanna impact? How do I wanna make a difference? And how can this money allow the more of that to happen? Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. And then you get to be creative. [laughs] What...
41:22
Is there something, like, foundational that you would like to ever, you know, to tell everyone?
41:28
Maybe there's a question I didn't ask or something you wanna talk about, and then also I wanna hear about how people can find you and, and, um, get in touch with you.
41:40
I think that one of the biggest realizations as I reflect back on my career and, um, not just about the money but about the happiness that comes with the life that we're all trying to create,
41:54
is again and again returning to a sense of my own value in the world. And it isn't something that you can just intend your way into, but rather
42:09
it's going, for me, because, you know, I didn't talk this much about it, but I grew up not only in a scarce home but with very mentally, um, abusive who had been also abused parents that
42:24
caused me to not ever wanna be a parent. Now I'm a parent of a 29 and 21-year-old, but thank goodness that I got past my fears of being a parent. But what I wanna say is, like, worth was not taught to me early in life.
42:40
It was something that I had to learn later in life, and at first I thought it would be if I had a lot of money, then I would be worthy to-... be in this world. Like, I really did think that for a long time.
42:53
Makes me sad to even think of it. But then starting this business 12 years ago and focusing on the combination of the prosperity, the mind, and the money,
43:04
I started learning about who I am in this life and the potential and, and the, like you said, like, the ability to impact people's lives. It turns out that was something that was very important to me.
43:16
But if I hadn't taken the risk of going out of my comfort zone and starting a business and speaking up and writing books and putting myself out there.
43:27
And then also back to, like, the abuse in the child- and, it, when I was a child,
43:33
I had a lot of work to do over the past 10 years to become a better human, to become a better parent, become a better, uh, partner to my husband.
43:41
And this, this attention to, like, I want to be the best person that I can possibly be in this life, and I am willing to do whatever it takes and cross whatever bridge I have to cross to become a better person.
43:58
And learning about defensiveness and, and dealing with some deeply disgusting defensiveness patterns that I had learned from my family that I was bringing into my family, and clearing that out and taking accountability to, like, who I am has been this transformative experience that has led to me feeling like I'm worthy.
44:20
Because I am. Because I see how I perform in the world, and I see h- the integrity that I bring into my life. But I couldn't have gotten there without every step, and a lot of them deeply uncomfortable to get there.
44:34
So arriving at this place of, like, I am worth it is not just in the mind. It's also in our actions. It's in s- our, our body. It's in our relationships, including the one that we have with money.
44:48
So I hope that that, you know, I just want to be fully transparent that this hasn't been an easy journey, but has it been worth it? 150%. Nice. Yeah. That's beautiful. Thank you for that.
45:03
And, um, I remember that there w- when, when we were sending emails back and forth, you sent me this really beautiful poem.
45:14
Um, I think somebody else wrote it, but it was about letting the heart take the wheel, and, um, I wanted to hear what that meant to you and, and what that means in your life. Yeah. Yeah. No.
45:28
I, I wrote it, and it's- Oh, you did write it. Okay. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. I just sent it to my community because I think that we are in,
45:38
right now we are beginning, you know, the Age of Aquarius, where it's really starting to hit home where
45:46
the past few thousand years have been all about the mind, and now it's the time for the heart to come in, where we learn how the mind follows in service of the heart rather than the heart being led by the mind.
46:02
And so the poem was inviting this conversation that I'm having inside of my life of, like, what does that look like for me to have the heart lead the way?
46:13
And granted, I've been, we've all been working on this along the way, but, like, I want to take bigger leaps in that direction going forward, and I want to figure that out with my community, with my friends, with my family, with the, with the whole world.
46:29
Like, how do we do this? What does that look like? Because I don't think any one person's gonna figure it out.
46:34
It's gonna be in a collect- a courageous collective that's gonna figure out how we do that 'cause the world isn't set up that way right now. Mm. Yes. I love that. Beautiful.
46:46
And there's nothing more powerful we can do than let the heart lead, but we have to feel safe, right, to do that. Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] That's a, that's a gorgeous note to end on.
46:58
