Aloha Beautiful Soul,

This week I led a sacred ceremony, and the most powerful thing I said was…

nothing.

The circle was set, but before we dropped into meditation, I opened the circle for people to share. One person spoke, then another, then more, until nearly everyone had shared in the conversation. I just listened. I didn't redirect, didn't teach, didn't steer toward the meditation or worry about the time.

Today my phone is full of messages from people in that circle telling me they had a wonderful experience. Their experience of the event was enhanced because they felt heard, seen, and connected after having space to express their truth.

Here is what I find interesting about that. I was not the one teaching or sharing wisdom in those moments. I was the one holding space for others to do that. And that is what created the deepest impact.

Many people trying to establish themselves as spiritual leaders believe they need to say the smartest thing, demonstrate the deepest knowing, or prove their worth through the quality of their teaching. The pressure to perform wisdom is enormous in spiritual communities.

When you genuinely know who you are, when you revere your own sacredness, power and truth, you no longer need the room to reflect it back to you. You can sit quietly in that knowing and give the space entirely to others. No resistance, no agenda, no need to redirect or correct. Just listening and allowing.

Paradoxically, that is when reverence comes. Not because you performed anything, but because you withheld nothing and needed nothing. The one who allows others to be fully heard becomes trustworthy, and respect follows trust.

This is leadership by presence, by being, rather than by control or demonstration. It is the opposite of what people often believe leadership requires.

The teachers I respect most in my life are the ones who make me feel more capable, more knowing, more sovereign in myself after being in their presence. Not more dependent on them. Those who held space for me to witness myself and grow.

The beautiful side effect of this type of leadership is that you trade followers for peers, your peers become friends, and your friends become soul family. Soul family are the people you call when you are having a hard time. The ones who bring you soup when you’re sick and throw you a surprise party on your birthday.

Last night, sitting quietly while a circle of beautiful souls spoke their truth, I felt whole and craved nothing.

You do not need a title or a platform or a following to lead in this way. You need presence, genuine listening, and zero attachment to being the one who matters most in the room.
