Aloha Beautiful Soul,

I used to think rest came after the work was done.

But the work is never done, is it? Especially when you run a business, or you’re a single mom, or you have a job and a family and more things to do in a day than the hours you have allow.

For the sake of work-life balance, I needed to make some adjustments.

I used to “power through”, now I work for four or five hours, then I go swim, walk the beach, float in the pool, call a friend, or do something that has nothing to do with anything productive.

Sometimes it’s hard to break away, but when I don’t give myself a reprieve, at the end of the day I feel depleted, fatigued, and my frequency is sub-par.

Here is what this “afternoon vacation” practice has taught me... the creative ideas that make an impact, the sudden download that is the “ah-ha” moment I needed, the unexpected new client… they happen when I’m completely disengaged from productivity, often when I’m in the water. Those moments happen when I’m NOT trying.

I started doing this about two years ago when I noticed that every time I took a pool break I had a breakthrough. It could be a new client, an unexpected sale, or the download that solved a problem.

This is a productivity hack and a frequency practice.

Joy is one of the highest vibrations available to us. It’s the blissful feeling that everything is in order. Calm joy that doesn’t crave anything more than the present experience. This is how I feel when I’m in the water under the sun…and it pays off in so many ways. I now have a believe because it is my lived experience that “every time I float in the pool, I have a breakthrough.” It feels like a cheat code. And it is!

When you drop into genuine joy, you move into alignment, heart-brain coherence. Your nervous system shifts out of production mode and into reception mode. Downloads that your busy mind couldn’t receive before now have space to land. The intuitive knowing you have been wishing for comes effortlessly when you let go.

Your spiritual practice comes alive every time you choose alignment over productivity. Your connection to higher consciousness is present in an afternoon walk or swim, in a spontaneous conversation that lights you up, and in the small moments you give yourself permission to play and enjoy life, even when your to-do list is waiting.

If you’re feeling behind, stuck in the hustle, or just not very inspired…try it. Take a mini afternoon vacation…do something completely indulgent that brings you joy and uplifts your heart. Even if it’s only for 15 minutes, it will up-shift your frequency and you might be pleasantly surprised at what comes from that moment of alignment.

Give yourself a slice of joy this afternoon. It is not just indulgence…it’s a frequency upgrade.

What is your version of the afternoon swim? I’d love to hear about it.

How Do The French Age So Gracefully?

"Must the French always insist on doing it better? And by “it” I mean life. Sure, their popular music is often regrettable and they aren’t exactly killing it in tech, but, they look good not killing it. They also happen to look good long after most of us don’t. Sexy, flirty, confident — Parisians embrace aging with typical élan. The most stylish among them share their secrets.
